Seraphina Sourcebook Update

As you may know if you've been following our website or Facebook page, we've been revamping our material which was originally released between 1999-2004 through playtesting and building our universe. By 2009 most of the playtesting was finished with the mythos-based books. One of the books we released teasers for was Seraphina, a book about a vampire in a mental hospital ran by the brilliant Doctor Baal Rinn Le'Ceth.

In the teaser, Seraphina is a vampire that, for an unknown reason, was brought to the care of Dr. Le'Ceth to understand her nature and how to control her powers. As players comb through the book, they are introduced to the Asylum where she is being kept and Room 104. Information in the book alerts players to the subconscious infection that is Seraphina and the Silent Hill inspired "disease" that she infects others with, causing massive hallucinations and psychic phenomena. Yesterday, we released a cover and layout for the upcoming book on our Facebook page to see what fans thought.

The Fallen Sourcebook Review

The feedback has been coming in about the Fallen Sourcebook. With the outline finished and most of the book complete, we sent out the book to trusted reviewers who took their time to comb through the backstory, metaplot devices and characters listed in the book. One of the surprises most reviewers describe to us was the deep connection between demons and vampires in the Damnation series. With the way vampire was received, a small portion of posters could not imagine that such a connection was possible. What are some of the connections we mentioned?

  • Demons may manifest their demonic form by blackening their eyes.
  • When a demon dies, their body breaks apart in coals, smoke and fire much like how a vampire turns into ash.
  • Demons manifest an Empathy and a wide array of powers ranging from Flight to Domination powers, similar to the powers of the vampires.

Outside of the similarities, there is mention of Halel and his offspring, Aesma Dheva and his dissapearance to the earthly plane, Vizerer and the Daemoni, the Magi and the Heralds (Celestials). One reviewer reported to us that they loved how you don't know who the "good guys" are until the end of the book. Another reviewer reported that they love how our demons are not pigeon-holed as only Western or only Judeo-Christian like some demons in film/mythology/rpgs. Instead, we opted for a more open-ended game where demon was a general term used to describe the character-type and the player chooses if they are Western, Eastern, Hindi, or a general demon with no classification.

Other fan-favorites include the factions. Fallen describes factions as groups a character belongs to and fights for in the War of Ages. Regardless of how a player chooses to play their demon character, they are able to play evenly in a game with vampires, werewolves and the other creatures types present in the world of Damnation. Some RPGs make demons power-houses that cannot fairly be played with other character-types without dominating the scene. As with all of our games, creature types start out even and build in their own unique way with many of our unique attributes such as our use of Innate Edges to change your character as you level up based on Faction, House, Bloodline/Type and Age. In this way those of you who read the Vampire: Undeath Corebook, or the Sourcebooks that go along with it, are familiar with the process of how vampires become refined by The Becoming and quickly become the monsters the elders fear. The same is possible with demons. As your character begins the game just above the stats of a normal mortal, you build in power and understanding of your nature to become the monster that will eventually barter for souls, save some by putting them on a different path or damn those who deserve it. Along the way players will discover Luciferian demons, Merchant Demons, Djinn, The Fallen, Heralds, Reapers, Spirits and Infernalists allowing Directors and players alike the ability to expand their home games or join in on The Lonely Road.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who helped review the Fallen Sourcebook. We appreciate you taking the time to read through the book and give us your honest perspective.
